I feel teaching elementary is a calling, not simply a job
Michigan is looking to recruit the best and the brightest for a career in elementary education. People who are goal oriented, self-motivated, and continually challenge themselves to do better. Michigan is implementing a “merit-pay” based salary schedule which will allow teachers to financially advance more rapidly than the former “experience-pay” based salary schedule.
Elementary school teachers in Michigan enjoy being in the 8th ranked state for average teacher’s salary. One of the biggest advantages of teaching in Michigan is that the cost of living is lower than that of any other state or metropolitan area in the Midwest. New elementary teachers can enjoy a comfortable and stable life with a higher than average teacher salary and a low-cost of living ratio.
