I feel teaching elementary is a calling, not simply a job
Kentucky was the first state to implement Common Core standards, introducing elementary school teachers to new notions in teaching. With a focus on inquiry-based learning, elementary teachers in Kentucky motivate students to explore new concepts and reach the “aha moments” that teachers love to see.
Teachers in Kentucky are granted flexibility if they can show that their students are learning effectively. For example, as long as you’re promoting inquiry-based learning, you could choose to explain a mathematical concept with a funny story. In another scenario, you might help your students understand a book chapter by acting out scenes.
Such flexibility lets you create a fun and engaging classroom. Ask any teacher why they enter into the profession, and maintaining that fun classroom atmosphere ranks high on their list of reasons.
