Spending time with 3rd graders has given my creativity a boost throughout my life.
Where other states turn away prospective teachers due to low demand, Hawaii has numerous job openings and opportunities for eager teachers. Because of Hawaii’s remote location, it actually has difficulty retaining many teachers from the mainland United States.
Hawaii’s leaders are hoping to change that through a new statewide mentoring program that connects new teachers with a system of support.
When you start teaching elementary school in Hawaii, you’ll receive one-on-one instruction from a mentor throughout the week. Your mentor not only helps you transition to teaching, but also helps you transition to your new lifestyle in Hawaii.
That rises above and beyond the mentoring systems offered in other states. By working with your mentor each week for the first three years, you’ll be able to concentrate more of your time on improving classroom experiences.
